Holiday Toy Drives On Myrtle Avenue
‘Tis the season of giving and holiday toy drives and several businesses along Myrtle Avenue are getting into the holiday spirit double-fold — by encouraging locals to donate toys and books to support their own neighbors.
“We wanted to do something to give back to the neighborhood and I’m always donating things that are barely used through Facebook and online parenting groups, so we decided to try to collect toys for an organization founded by one of our customers,” said Karin Torres, owner of Corkscrew Wines Brooklyn.
Torres is referring to Little Essentials, founded by Fort Greene resident Sandie Trombert, whose mission is to recycle gently used items for Brooklyn families in need.
So as you do your holiday shopping this month, think about stopping by these stores to lend a hand:
- Fort Greene SNAP, 324 Myrtle Avenue / 718.694.6957
Toys and gifts through December 17 to benefit grandparents who are raising their grandchildren and the participants of their parenting workshops.
- Klevor Liquors, 343 Myrtle Avenue / 718.875.3991
Unwrapped toys through December 17
- Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, 412 Myrtle Avenue / 718.403.0067
Toys without wrapping paper to benefit Toys for Tots and Chai Life.
- Putnam’s Pub & Cooker, 419 Myrtle Avenue / 347.799.2382
Toys without wrapping paper to benefit NY Cares.
- Corkscrew Wines Brooklyn, 489 Myrtle Avenue / 718.230. WINE (9453)
Book and toy drive through December 16 to benefit Little Essentials, a local moms-run non-for-profit helping families stay together and keep kids out of foster homes. New or gently used toys and books (all ages); no large toys (i.e., kitchenettes and ride-on toys, no stuffed animals); fresh batteries greatly appreciated.
Good luck with your shopping, and if you notice any other holiday toy drive spots we missed, let us know in the comments below!
