History At Home: Berkley Coats In The Brooklyn Daily Eagle

We are completely nerding out over the Brooklyn Public Library’s expanded Daily Eagle archives. Prior to the new release, the collection only spanned from 1841 to 1902, but now it runs all the way through 1955.

We’ve already found a number of crazy cool neighborhood flashbacks, like the below ads from 5th Avenue’s Berkley Shop, published in 1933. Although the business is long gone, a Berkley Coats, Suits, and Dresses sign remains standing proud at the corner of 16th Street (shown above).

If you have some time to kill, we’d definitely recommend exploring the archives. They’re a local history lovers dream.
