On Saturday, July 18 from 12-2pm, you and your family can enjoy fun activities at the Luau at the Lakeside in Prospect Park, while knowing you’re helping some neighbors who are on a mission to save their son.

The festive event, which will feature an assortment of food and outdoor activities for children, is a fundraiser co-sponsored by South Slope Pediatrics and Jonah’s Just Begun, a non-profit organization focusing on the goal to raise funds for scientific research groups to find treatments for Sanfilippo Syndrome Type C.

The organization was founded by Park Slope residents Jill and Jeremy Weishaar after they learned, when their son Jonah was just 22 months old, that he has the rare disease, which leads to the degeneration of the central nervous system. The family, as well as Dr. Hai Cao of South Slope Pediatrics, have put a lot of time into fundraising and researching for a cure, and this event is one way neighbors can pitch in — or, if you can’t make it, consider making a donation online.
