Help Raise Money For Kensington Cats Facing Slew Of Health Problems
The American Street Cat, a volunteer-based nonprofit in Brooklyn, let us know they’ve launched a fundraising campaign to help about 18 cats plagued by health problems in what they’re calling the Empire State Colony in a Kensington construction yard.
As part of the project, the nonprofit aims to trap, neuter and release about 18 cats, which they stressed will help prevent infections from spreading further in the colony.
From The American Street Cat’s fundraising page:
We first discovered this colony when we met Ricky, a blind 7 month old, and his younger sidekick, Lucille. Ricky required enucleation, and Lucille has been his seeing eye kitty in foster care. We continue to seek permanent placement for them as a bonded pair.
One of Ricky’s brothers (One-Eyed Jack in the video) suffered from a similar untreated eye infection but has retained good vision in his remaining eye. It is our intention, with the feeder’s blessing, to find Jack a permanent home.
In addition to Ricky, Lucille, and Jack, there are four kittens that will be pulled in for fostering and/or adopting, the nonprofit said. Of these kittens, “one has a manageable URI, while another has a more concerning eye infection. These kittens will need plenty of TLC during their transition from street life to safety,” The American Street Cat said.
According to the nonprofit, the funds raised will help the nonprofit cover medical expenses, travel to and from clinics, and more. If there are surplus funds, they’ll be earmarked for the next trap-neuter-release project.
