Our local nonprofit CAMBA, based at 1720 Church Avenue, is hoping to bring toys to hundreds of children living in homeless shelters this holiday season – and you can help them out by going here to donate whatever you are able to afford.

CAMBA’s Toys for Joy drive aims to bring gifts for more than 500 children living in CAMBA’s homeless shelters, as well as temporary homes.

On its Toys for Joy website, CAMBA says that the gifts will help such children as a 13-year-0ld boy who recently wrote to Santa that, “this year, what I would really like is a house for my family.”

CAMBA notes on the same website that while it “is working tirelessly to build more permanent, affordable homes … we know this long-term solution to homelessness won’t be ready in time for the holidays.”

From CAMBA:

For most of the year, homeless parents struggle just to find the basic necessities for their children—shelter, a place to sleep and a hot meal is too often all parents can manage.
Come December, these children deserve more.
They deserve the kind of holiday—a holiday filled with joy—that all children should know.
Your donation to our Toys for Joy will enable CAMBA to buy holiday gifts that meet the ages and interests of the more than 500 children who call our shelters “home.”

Again, to lend your hand to a homeless child, you can go here to help CAMBA’s drive.
