Hamilton’s Brings Comfort Food to Kensington

The much anticipated Hamilton’s on the corner of Fort Hamilton Parkway and E 4th opened on October 11 and has been packed with happy neighbors since. Those who chimed in on Yelp generally agreed that the food was good, beer selection excellent, and that it was packed and loud. Well, things really could be worse!

When we stopped by just after 7pm on a recent Friday, families that had brought their young kids were leaving, replaced by groups of friends and couples on their night out. It was a loud and happy place, with absolutely fantastic service. The menu has something for everyone, whether you like meat, fish, or neither.

Servings were generous without being overwhelming, and no matter what we tired – ribs, fish, squid, brussel sprouts, dessert – it was all good comfort food, and exactly what the neighborhood was missing. We’d highly recommend the ribs, the squid was excellent too, and if you just want to stop in for a pint (beer and wine only), grab the smoked almonds as well.

For another take on it, check out what our neighbor who must love food says in their review of the opening night (as well as taking us down the memory lane to the time before Oak & Iris).

The place manages to pack in lots of seats, which makes for cozy company, but given how loud it gets, the background noise drowns out the neighbors’ conversations. More of a restaurant than a bar, it is just what the neighborhood needed, and we’ll be back. And we will let you know when the weekend brunch starts!
