Gross New Map Shows About Half Of Local Restaurants Have Rats
A few weeks back, we took a look at a map of the most rat-infested spots in the neighborhood. Now, journalist Steven Melendez has created a map specifically for restaurants–that is, restaurants cited for “evidence of mice or live mice” or “evidence of rats or live rats” by the Department of Health.
The worst offending neighborhood was Queens Village (zip code 11429), in which nearly 61% of restaurants were cited for mice- and rat-related offenses. Closer to our neck of the woods, though, the figures didn’t make us much hungrier–11226 clocked in at 46%, with 93 out of 201 restaurants cited; 11230 got 49%, with 51 out of 104 cited; and 11218, which includes nearly half of our coverage area, got 52%, with 72 of its 138 restaurants cited.
Steven was kind enough to add any restaurants with C ratings as a result of rat activity to the map’s pop up bubbles, so avoid those and maybe consult the DOH ratings before heading out tonight–or just take comfort in cooking at home, because our supermarkets are looking pretty good right now.
