Great News About Sanitation At PS 139
ps 139 summer garbage

Last night, a neighbor wrote us about the ongoing trash problem at PS 139. She said:

This garbage situation has been going on for a week in front of 139. Sanitation has not picked it up in that long. It is 90+ degrees and it stinks. There are flies and various animals have chewed through the bags. It has also taken over the majority of the sidewalk by the schoolyard.

We got in touch with Ellen Moncure Wong, a PS 139 parent who has communicated with Principal Mary McDonald about the school’s trash issue in the past.

Ellen said that since a camp was placed in the schoolyard that serves roughly 550 kids Monday-Friday and the school had been taken off Sanitation’s pick up list for the summer, there was a delay in getting this latest round of garbage removed in a timely manner. But, the city has just confirmed that the school is back on the list–so clean, pleasant-smelling sidewalks should resume shortly!
