Grandmas Strut Their Stuff At 10th Annual Pageant

A dozen contestants took to the dance floor of National Restaurant (273 Brighton Beach Avenue) to brandish their beauty and talent at the 10th annual Your Highness Grandmother Pageant on November 13.

Organized by the Be Proud Foundation, the golden gals donned glorious gowns and performed song and dance as more than 150 onlookers cheered them on. Judges – all grandpas themselves, including City Councilman Michael Nelson – faced a tough decision, ultimately crowning two queens: Bensonhurst’s Ada Natenzon and Tamara Kataeva of Queens.

Raisa Chernina, Be Proud’s executive director, opened the night with a dedication to all the grandmothers who have passed away.

“Age is just a number,” Chernina said. “Our grandmothers love life and they show us how to keep this triumph of life regardless of the age.”
