If you are looking for a quick cheap bite to eat and you are down near Foster Avenue, you probably already know about the great food at Gyro King, but we can’t help but tout their heaping helpings of meat and rice.

If you are looking for a meal that will stick with you, we love the Lamb and Rice, which, for $6.50, definitely gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

The guys at Gyro King don’t make the fanciest of dishes and the menu is relatively slim, but what they do make is delicious and they are happy to give you a lot of it.

We miss some of the halal carts from our days working in Midtown, but Gyro King fills the hole quite well. (Though when it comes to kebabs, we tend to go for Gyro Hut.)

We particularly love the long grain rice that they use, which we don’t see as often as we would like. And we really appreciate the extensive salad bar that comes with your meal. It includes cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, chickpeas, carrots, onions and more — all homemade and delicious. Plus, it makes us feel slightly better about our giant lunch.

Where in the neighborhood to you like to grab a cheap but filling bite to eat?

Gyro King has two locations, one at 26 Newkirk Plaza, which is open from 10:30am-10pm, and the other at 1017 Foster, which is open 24 hours.
