Gorilla Coffee’s Bergen Street Outpost To Open Next Friday

With some signage up and construction inside moving quickly, Gorilla Coffee‘s second location at 472 Bergen Street, just a few blocks away from its 5th Avenue spot, is hoping to open on Friday, November 15.

Gorilla is presenting this second location as a bit slower of an experience, giving customers a chance to learn about a rotating list of single-origin coffees from the baristas — though, they’ll also have a quick-service section in the front, for those who just want to grab a cup on the way to the subway up the block.

They’ll have a Modbar, a modular-brewing system that’s not found in too many places around the city, which has a counter-top mounted group head with machines placed below the counters so the customer can see the drinks as they’re being made.

“We wanted to remove all barriers and create a more engaging space, both accessible and transparent and to tell the story of these coffees through their meticulous preparation,” said co-owner Darleen Scherer. “The open kitchen is a theater of ingredients and skill. Our new store and upcoming new roastery answer to this new era in coffee roasting and serving.”

Gorilla says the 4,000-square-foot roastery, which will be located at 500 President Street, between Nevins Street and 3rd Avenue, will be all about transparency from roasting, cupping, training, and preparation.

The Bergen shop takes the place of Lululemon, which closed over the summer, and joins a block that includes Bark, Sun In Bloom, and City Sub.
