Goodbye, Brooklyn Pop-up Cat Cafe, But A Possible Hello To A Permanent Space?
Last call, cat lovers: the popular pop-up cat cafe at 354 Myrtle Avenue will close end-of-day this Saturday, October 24 after six weeks of making Fort Greene the go-to place for stressed out Brooklynites to go for some animal therapy and to fulfill cat adoption dreams.
In the meantime, the week’s schedule is chock full of educational events and fun activities for pet owners, ranging from a vaccine clinic to a comedy night.
But creators of The Cat’s Meow are hoping to find a permanent home — both for the cafe and the rescued cats in their care.
As mentioned earlier this month, the folks over at the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC) have launched an Indiegogo fundraising campaign to raise $157,500 to cover the first six months of rent, renovation fees, and Indiegogo fees.
“Based on the great reception of our pop-up Cat Café, we would expect the space to be self sufficient once up and running, and even bring in some extra money for rescuing additional cats,” said BBAWC President and Cat’s Meow manager Anne Levin.
Thus far, only $3,168 has been raised, but we have 44 days left to reach the goal.
