Good Eggs Adds CBE As Distribution Site For Farm-Fresh Produce

If making it to one of our farmers markets on the weekend isn’t ideal, or the thought of dealing with Food Coop politics and work shifts is intimidating, there’s another option for in-season fruits, vegetables, and more with Good Eggs, a sort of CSA-meets-FreshDirect idea that recently added another pick-up location in Park Slope.

Originally started in San Francisco, Good Eggs brought their business to Brooklyn last year, and has just added Congregation Beth Elohim (274 Garfield Place) to its distribution sites in the area (there’s also one at Two Moon Art House & Cafe and Greenwood Park). They vet their producers according to a set of criteria, and then distribute their goods to you. Unlike a CSA, where you pay ahead and get what the farmer can provide, you can pick out only the items that you want. Though, unlike a farmers market and more like FreshDirect, you still can’t see, touch, and smell what you’re picking.

They’ve got a pretty wide selection of items, from currently available produce like apples, broccoli, and squash, to cheese, eggs, Ronnybrook milk, beef, chicken (raw or roasted), stock, bread, flour, even ready-to-eat meals and dog food, for prices somewhat comparable to what you’ll find at city Greenmarkets.

You have to place your order by midnight two days prior to the day you’d like to pick up, and you have the option to shop once, or, on some items, to create a repeating order (which gets you a 5% discount — CBE also has a discount available for first-timers). And as noted, they don’t deliver directly to you (yet — they’re working on it), you have to be available between 6-7pm each Tuesday or Thursday for this CBE pick-up to work for you. (Updated to add: They do in fact offer delivery all over Brooklyn now, Tuesday-Friday, 3-9pm, for an additional fee.)
