Girls Read-a-Thon at Park Slope Library to Support Education

When a group of 4th graders at PS 107 heard the story of Malala Yousafzai, a 14-year-old girl in Pakistan who was attacked for speaking out about girls’ education, they decided to stand up with her.

“We are inspired by Malala and want to show our support for her, her family and all the people who show tremendous courage in the fight for girls’ education,” they say on their blog.

They’ve organized a Read-a-Thon for girls in grades 1-5 at the Park Slope Library on Saturday, November 3 from 1-4pm. Participants will ask family and friends to donate 10 cents for each page they read, and all proceeds will benefit Developments in Literacy, a group that educates and empowers underprivileged girls in Pakistan.
