If you earned $53,000 or less last year, you can get your tax return prepared for free next week.

The office of Assemblymember Jim Brennan is hosting a Virtual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Day, in partnership with the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs, the Food Bank For New York City, and the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, on Monday, April 6 from 10am-3pm, at 416 7th Avenue, between 13th and 14th Streets.

You just need to bring your tax documents (see the full list of what’s needed here) to drop off with an on-site tax professional, who can answer any questions you may have, and then leave them to do their work — they’ll scan and upload documents to a secure site, and an IRS-certied tax preparer reviews the documents and prepares your return. Then you can return later in the day, or provide authorization by phone, to file the return.

In addition to Brennan’s free event, there are numerous other places throughout the area where you can get free help, which we’ve listed here.

For more information about the April 6 event, contact Brennan’s office at 718-788-7221.
