May is National Bike Month and on Friday May 17—National Bike to Work Day—Myrtle Ave BKLYN will host a Bike To Work Day Pop-Up with The Brown Bike Girl and the NYPD’s 88th Precinct. From 7:30am to 9:30am, bicyclists will receive a free bagel and coffee on the northeast corner of Myrtle and Vanderbilt Avenues and will be able to register their bikes for free with officers from the precinct. Bike registrations help police track lost or stolen bicycles.

Wallabout Walking Tour courtesy of Myrtle Ave BKLYN

The BID’s annual historic walking tour returns for another season with the Wallabout Walking Tour, a free 1.5-mile tour that teaches attendees about the history of the Wallabout neighborhood from the early 1600s to today. Tour groups meet by the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park and finish at Walt Whitman’s former home at 99 Ryerson Street. Tours are held at 11am the third Saturday of each month. Space is limited so registration is required.

And this Saturday, May 11 (12pm-5pm), Green in BKLYN will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The eco-friendly retailer will host a party with an e-waste recycling event (drop off small electronics only, such as phones), 10% discount store-wide, live music, snacks, and a raffle featuring products from the store.
