Get A Free Flu Shot On 7th Avenue This Saturday

Have you gotten your flu shot yet? Usually at its worst between January and March, flu season can start as early as October, and it can be deadly — the city says that more New Yorkers die from influenza and pneumonia than from any other infection.

“The flu, combined with pneumonia – a common complication of influenza – is the third leading cause of preventable death in New York City,” said NYC Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett. “It is important to get your flu vaccine as early as possible; don’t wait until peak flu season. The vaccine is available today at the Health Department’s immunization clinics, HHC providers, your doctor’s office and local pharmacies.”

An annual influenza vaccination is recommended for people aged 6 months and older, and it is especially recommended for those at risk of developing influenza-related complications — particularly young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions, and adults aged 65 and older.

You’ll have a chance to get a free shot this Saturday, November 1 from 10am-12pm, when Assmeblymember Jim Brennan will host a flu shot vaccination clinic at his office at 416 7th Avenue, between 13th and 14th Streets. Though they are free, you do need to call 718-788-7221 to schedule and appointment.
