Former Fulton Street Funeral Parlor Leveled For Karl Fischer Development & More Clinton Hill Construction Updates

The former Fairhaven Funeral Chapel at 1041-1047 Fulton Street is officially a thing of the past, we learned last week, as workers have completely cleared away the three buildings that once stood on the lot.

The parcel between Downing Street and Irving Place, which contained buildings dating back to 1930, is slated for a six story Karl Fischer building containing 28 residential units. No new permits have been filed for the address since we last checked in, though as we previously reported, the property is up for sale.

Just down the block, work is continuing at 1035 Fulton Street (on the corner of Downing; visible in top photo). A stop work order dated October 20 is posted at the property, specifying violations relating to unsafe conditions for contractors; however, a stop work order from October 28 has effectively rescinded the order. Builders are working on the third floor or the seven story, 35 unit building slated for the site, which is set for completion next fall.

Though signs and a fence have been up for several months across the way from 1035 at 1008 Fulton Street, it appears as if the early stages of development have just begun. The first four permits for the seven-story building were filed on September 22–and while a stop work order was issued on October 28 due to an excavation tracking concern, it has already been partially rescinded.

While nearby 976-978 Fulton Street (between Grand Avenue and Saint James Place) is scheduled for completion at the same time as 1035, it looks to be much further along. All seven stories have been built, with a brick red facade and multi-paned windows (much like those rendered for 1035) to come.

Back up on Classon, 535 (between Fulton Street and Putnam Avenue) has also reached its full height of five stories. The 26,000 sq ft building, to feature 38 residential units, is scheduled to be finished with a dark grey facade and sleek modern windows by the end of next summer.

And finally, across the street, 516 Classon Avenue looks to be close to completion–at least from the exterior. A partial stop work order was issued September 16 over scaffolding concerns, however, which may delay the end of construction of the 18 unit building, originally scheduled to wrap up this past summer, even further.
