Friday Crime Blotter: “Hangry” Man in East Williamsburg Deli, Hit-and-Run in Carroll Gardens & More

DOWNTOWN – A 14-year-old boy was robbed while changing trains in the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station last week and police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the culprit.

The robbery occurred around 10:40 am on Thursday, November 29, police said. The victim was transferring from the A to the G when the suspect approached him from behind and told the boy he had a gun, said police.

Though a gun was never produced, the suspect did swipe the victim’s Beats headphones from his head, fleeing the station towards Bond Street.

EAST WILLIAMSBURG – An extremely “hangry” customer is wanted for assault after having a meltdown in an East Williamsburg deli while waiting for his bagel to be made.

Around 4:30 am on Sunday, November 25, the individual entered the Hi! Mango deli at 1055 Flushing Avenue, at Vandevoort Place. The individual became belligerent after waiting for his order longer than he apparently thought was necessary, getting into a verbal altercation with the 28-year-old employee.

The suspect threw store merchandise at the employee, causing bruises to the man’s head and torso, police said. The suspect fled the location, police said, and EMS took the employee to Wyckoff Hospital, where he was treated and released.

CARROLL GARDENS – Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver that struck a 60-year-old bicyclist in Carroll Gardens late last month.

The collision took place at Sackett Street and Hicks Street, police said, around 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 24. The driver of a black four-door sedan struck the male cyclist, then fled south on Hicks and east on Union, police said.

EMS transported the victim to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

WILLIAMSBURG – A robbery at Broadway Triangle was robbed last month and police are on the hunt for the suspect.

The robbery took place around 1:30 am on Friday, November 23, at the Natural Gourmet Deli at 740 Broadway, police said. The 29-year-old male employee was approached by a man who pulled a gun and demanded money. The employee tried to fight back and after a scuffle, the robber stole some property and fled, leaving the employee with a small cut to his head and some swelling to his face.
