Fresh Bite Starts Afresh In Old Digs With New Owner And Menu

The exterior looks almost the same. The signage has been slightly augmented, but the font remains the same.

Fresh Bite Mediterranean Cuisine (168 5th Avenue at Degraw Street) opened its doors late last week. The menu and owner are the new kids on the block.

The restaurant is now owned by Michael Ahmed, a realtor and life-time resident of Bensonhurst. “I’ve been in real estate for a long time. I want to try something new,” he says.

Fresh Bite’s new menu is chock full of Mediterranean standards — kebabs, falafel, hummus, and yes, shawarma. In addition, they’ll be serving pita “pitza” — a variety of meat and veggie dishes topping freshly baked pita bread.

The restaurant/cafe also has a selection of heros on their menu, including pastrami, brisket, turkey, and chicken cutlet.

The previous Fresh Bite opened last summer, serving a menu of breakfast sandwiches, burgers, panini, wraps, and deli sandwiches. However, it didn’t have a long shelf life. Eight months later, that version closed its doors.

Ahmed wants to start quietly, and get to know what the clientele likes. He has his own favorites. “Try our falafel. We love it.”
