Free Pet Adoptions In The Area Next Weekend
On Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, more than 90 animal shelters and rescue groups in the area – including Sean Casey Animal Rescue – are participating in Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, the largest free pet adoption event in America:
The goal of Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days is to give all healthy, senior, and treatable shelter dogs and cats a second chance. The event also will help rescue organizations financially, thereby allowing them to save even more lives.
Qualified adopters can bring home a new pet (like Bear, the Chow above who they say would make a great hiking companion), and Maddie’s Fund will give that shelter or rescue group a certain amount of money — if you adopt an older pet, or one that has had care for a treatable medical condition, the organization will receive more money from the fund.
You can stop by the shelter at 153 E 3rd Street between Fort Hamilton Parkway and Caton Avenue — or their new Sunset Park shelter at 551 39th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues — this weekend, both from 11am-7pm, to meet a potential new friend.
You can also find pets available for adoption with a few rescue organizations further north in the Slope:
- For Animals will be at NYCPets, 218 5th Avenue, Saturday & Sunday, 12-5pm
- Brooklyn Animal Action will be at Unleashed by Petco, 81 7th Avenue, Saturday, 12-5pm
- K9Kastle will be at Unleashed by Petco, 81 7th Avenue, Sunday, 12-4:30pm
