“Come celebrate summer with your neighbors and support our local park,” the Conservancy’s website reads. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and support the more than 150 free events it hosts each year, including the annual Halloween fest, kids concerts and dance classes, outdoor movies, public art, horticultural/volunteer programs, and more.

The Conservancy will provide tables arranged under a tent at the Monument Plaza. Entertainment will include performances by the Eric Frazier Band and Najee Omar, followed by a DJ set and dancing. The Conservancy will also hold a silent auction offering local prizes as well as getaway vacations.

In honor of the bicentennial of Walt Whitman’s birth, the theme of this year’s Fling is “Leaves of Grass.” Attendees are encouraged to dress festively, wear “a touch of green,” and to bring additional table decor inspired by Whitman’s famed poem.

Attendees can bring their own picnic dinner or order a meal from Metta and/or wine from Gnarly Vines Wine & Spirits. Both vendors have extended their deadline for orders to Sunday, June 9. Orders can be made here. Diners who pack their own meals should remember to bring their own plates, utensils, and glasses. Bring beer or wine only—no hard alcohol.

Doors will open for the Fort Greene Park Fling at 5pm with drinks and dinner (accompanied by live jazz) starting at 6pm, followed by dancing from 8pm to 10pm.
