“State of Emergence” student tribute to MLK Jr.
When: Monday, January 19 at 1:30pm
Where: BAM Fisher Hall, Fishman Space at 321 Ashland Place
What: Participants in BAM Education’s three-month Arts & Justice after-school program present this original interdisciplinary work, the result of a distance-learning exchange with fellow teens in Ferguson, Missouri. An exercise in transforming responses to police brutality and prejudice into a thoughtful, powerful work of music, dance, poetry, and theater.

Family Workshop: Making “The Dance”
When: Wednesday, January 21 from 3-5pm
Where: Ingersoll Community Center at 177 Myrtle Avenue
What: Join art educators from FOKUS for a youth and family workshop celebrating the acclaimed visual artist and former Fort Greene resident Emilio Cruz. Participants will reinterpret Cruz’s 1962 painting “The Dance” by creating their own abstract art, as well as take a journey through popular social dances of the last 5 decades. Come ready to move! (Part of Black Artstory Month.)

UrbanGlass “Material Location” Opening Party
