What: Join neighbors for a free wine-tasting and relaxed conversation.

FLICFest: Nicole Wolcott and Mana Hashimoto
When: Friday, January 23 at 7:30pm
Where: Irondale Center at 85 South Oxford Street
What: Wolcott at 7:30pm and Hashimoto at 9pm. Continuation of the annual festival of feature-length independent choreography. Each evening includes two feature-length dance theater works followed by a performance cabaret in the balcony lounge. Festival ends Saturday, January 31.
How much: $25

Brer Rabbit: The Opera
When: Friday, January 23 at 8pm (final night)
Where: BRIC House Ballroom at 647 Fulton Street
What: Brer Rabbit The Opera: A Funky Meditation On Gentrification (Work-in-Progress) tackles the modern dilemma of gentrification through the lens of legendary black folklore hero, Brer Rabbit, and his birthplace, the Briar Patch. It will merge music, performance art, and community engagement to create a piece that engages adults of all cultures in reflecting on the life lessons our respective Briar Patches have taught us.
How much: $15 in advance/$20 at the door

BAMcafe Live: Erik Deutsch and the Jazz Outlaws
When: Friday, January 23 at 10pm
Where: BAMcafe at Peter Jay Sharp Building at 30 Lafayette Avenue
What: Described by The New York Times as “a pianist with a taste for tuneful provocation,” jazz keyboardist Erik Deutsch has experimented with everything from prog-rock to psychedelia to country.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 24

Where: Washington Park between DeKalb and Willoughby Avenues
What: Weekly farmers market with live music and family-friendly activities.

Shape Up! Cardio Sculpt
When: Saturday, January 24 from 10-11am
Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: Free cardio sculpt classes for adults.

Author/Illustrator Story Time: Kirsten Hall and Dasha Tolstikova
When: Saturday, January 24 at 11am
Where: Greenlight Bookstore at 686 Fulton Street
What: Published by Brooklyn-based publisher Enchanted Lion,The Jacket tells the story of Book, who longs for a child to discover him. When a young girl finally does, Book is thrilled… until he meets Egg Cream, a less than clean dog. But don’t worry, the girl has a very special surprise in store.

Open House: LIU Children’s Academy Summer Camp
When: Saturday, January 24 from 11am-1pm
Where: LIU Brooklyn at 1 University Plaza
What: Speak directly with Children’s Academy staff about the six-week summer day camp for ages 3-12 and take a tour of the facilities.

Shape Up! NYC Aerobics Class
When: Saturday, January 24 from 12-1pm
Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: Free aerobics class taught by Parks volunteers.

Talk: “From Margins to Mainstream: Judith Scott Unbound”
When: Saturday, January 24 at 2pm
Where: Brooklyn Museum’s Elizabeth Sackler Center for Feminist Art at 200 Eastern Parkway, 4th Floor
What: The Creative Growth Art Center serves more than 160 adults with developmental, mental, and physical disabilities by providing them with studio space, a gallery, and professional representation. Director Tom di Maria talks about the environment where the works on view in Judith Scott—Bound and Unbound were created and Scott’s growth as an artist. Joyce Scott, Judith’s sister, reads from her memoir.

Ping Pong Tournament
When: Saturday, January 24 at 3pm
Where: Brooklyn Eats on Myrtle at 474 Myrtle Avenue
What: Compete for $120. The winner of this Ping Pong event will have to defend their crown on multiple occasions at future tournaments. Ultimately, the defending champ(s) will then compete at neighboring bars, as a representative of Brooklyn Eats on Myrtle! Let the games begin. FLICFest: John Zullo and CatScratch Theatre
When: Saturday, January 24 at 7:30pm

BAMcafe Live: Steve Sullivan and the Board of Directors

Where: BAMcafe at Peter Jay Sharp Building at 30 Lafayette Avenue
What: The six-piece outfit—with members originating from Australia, Colombia, Brooklyn and beyond—performs bluesy originals with a hint of swirling psych-rock. Expect the occasional cover by artists like Bill Withers and The Rolling Stones.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 25

Seasonal Photography Tour
When: Sunday, January 25 from 11am-1pm
Where: BLDG 92 at 63 Flushing Avenue
What: Hosted by Turnstile Tours, highlights include the frozen-in-time Navy Hospital Campus, the World War II-era pier with views of the Manhattan skyline and Wallabout Bay, and a functioning dry dock that is used for ship repair. All tour participants are invited to participate in an Instagram-based Photography Contest.

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company’s Lunar New Year Celebration
When: Sunday, January 25 at 3pm with artwork and vendors at 2pm
Where: Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, Walt Whitman Theater at Campus Road and Nostrand Avenue
What: Choreographer Nai-Ni Chen and her company will once again take audiences on a visually delightful, culturally rich tour of the 3,000-year-old Chinese civilization. This year’s celebration honors The Year of the Sheep — a year of peace, love, and woolly gentleness according to the Chinese calendar.
How much: $25/$12 for children under 12

Putnam’s Unplugged
When: Sunday, January 25 from 8-11pm
Where: Putnam’s Pub and Cooker at 419 Myrtle Avenue
What: “Sip and Song,” this series will host four songwriters performing in the round and will be coupled with a wine/beer tasting for that night (tasting to be announced).
