Fort Greene-Clinton Hill Events: Free Comedy, Music & Dance Through September 14

We may be back to the grind this Monday, but there’s a lot more exciting stuff to do this week than work.

Community Dance Class

Where: BRIC Arts Media House (647 Fulton Street between Rockwell Place)
What: Evidence, A Dance Company‘s Ronald K. Brown brings contemporary African dance to BRIC with this no-cost class for all ages and skill levels. No experience necessary–just express yourself.

Baby Breakfast
When: Tuesday, August 19, 10am-12pm
Where: Habana Outpost (757 Fulton Street at South Portland Avenue)
What: We’re sure they’re so cute you could just eat them all up, but this is not that kind of Baby Breakfast. Bring the little’uns (four and under) to hang with their contemporaries, make crafts, and play.

Trivia Night
When: Wednesday, September 10, 8-11pm
Where: Putnam’s Pub & Cooker (419 Myrtle Avenue at Clinton Avenue)
What: This weekly trivia competition is rare in that it’s free to join, plus there are drink specials and you’ll have the chance to walk away with a $100, $50, or $25 gift certificate. Or stumble away. Or don’t leave Putnam’s with any value left on the certificate at all. We’re all adults here.
How much: Free!

Steamboat! Comedy Series

Where: Greenlight Bookstore (686 Fulton Street at South Portland Avenue)

Lunchtime MashUp: Two Sides Sounding & Bed-Stuy Veterans
When: Friday, September 12, 12pm
Where: MetroTech Commons
What: This hour-long event, part of the 2014 BEAT Festival, is almost like dinner and a show–just, you know, at lunchtime. You can check out a musical performance by Two Sides Sounding, followed by the dance moves of Bed-Stuy Veterans–and all for a grand total of $0.
How much: Free

Chess Against the Master
When: Saturday, September 13, 10am
Where: Putnam Triangle Plaza (at Fulton Street and Grand Avenue)
What: Join teenage chess prodigy Joshua Colas for several exhilarating games–simultaneously! Joshua will play the first 15 people to register for the event, moving swiftly from one board to another while he lets you… think for a minute. And if you can hold your own, trophies may be in store.
