Former Solo Bar Space On Cortelyou For Rent Again

It seems to be the space that just can’t reopen. A neighbor noticed that the gates were up on the former Solo bar on the corner of Cortelyou Road and Marlborough Road, and says the owner told her that the space is back on the market, asking for a rent of $7,000 per month.

After sitting empty since the bar closed in 2011 (aside from a few kitten residents last year), we got word that a pharmacy was supposed to move in, with shelves already added to the middle of the space months ago. When future pharmacy owner Julie Khenkin spoke with the Brooklyn Paper in May, she also mentioned that they’d have a soda fountain (if you’ve looked inside recently, you’ll have seen that the old bar is still in place). But she drew a bit of ire from neighbors when she was dismissive of the two already-existing pharmacies on the block — as well as when she referred to those residents interested in having another bar take up the space by telling the paper, “Most of them are alcoholics.”

We reached out to Julie following that story to find out more about the coming pharmacy, but she did not respond to our requests for an interview.

A back section of the old Solo space, with a storefront on Marlborough, was filled in that time, though, by New York Brick Oven Pizza, which opened in May. It might not be a favorite among Ditmas Park pizza fans, but they have some good deals on lunch, and we’re certainly happy to have the space filled rather than remaining empty.

So, here we go again. What kind of business do you think will do best on this corner?
