Flatbush-Tompkins Congregational Church To Rededicate Sanctuary After Last Year's Ceiling Collapse

Wonderful news for the Flatbush-Tompkins Congregational Church (1802-1806 Dorchester Road between E 18th and E 19th Streets), or for anyone who simply appreciates the building: after a ceiling collapse in April of 2012, the church’s sanctuary is finally set to reopen with a special ceremony on Sunday, September 8 at 4pm. Robert R. Gainer of the Rededication Committee says of the event:

The word will be delivered by the Pastor, Rev. Wilmot H. Taylor and the voices and talents of the choirs will surely “raise the roof”.

With the ceiling restored and spirits renewed, FTCC stands in a good place to continue the traditions and honor the heritage of over 100 years in this landmarked building.

The FTCC’s ceiling was rebuilt with the help of congregation members, as well as a Sacred Sites grant from the NY Landmarks Conservancy. Learn more about the history of the amazing 1910 church at Brownstoner.
