Flatbush Man Indicted For Murdering & Dismembering Wife

Today, a Flatbush man was indicted for murdering and dismembering his wife early this year, said Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

Phillip Martin, 42, pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter, and concealment of a human corpse.

When he was arrested on February 16, Martin confessed to the crime, saying that he dismembered the body of 43-year-old Diana Rodriguez with a saw and stuffed the remains in trash cans on the street. Her remains have yet to be found.

“The allegations against this defendant are truly disturbing and we are determined to hold him responsible for this barbaric murder,” said Acting District Attorney Gonzalez.

In mid-February, the victim’s family reported her missing after they hadn’t heard from her in more than a month, according to the investigation. When they showed up at Martin’s apartment, he told them that she had skipped town.

Investigators found that Martin had kept Rodriguez’s body in the living room for about a week after the murder.

He was ordered held without bail and to return to court on May 4. If convicted, Martin faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
