Flashback: Where Were You During the Blackout on August 14, 2003?
The lights went out across NYC (and much of the Northeast) on this day nine years ago. It was a much more calm affair than the last major blackout in 1977, but for many people, it still wasn’t much fun.
Did you have to walk back to the neighborhood from another part of the city? Were you driving, or stuck on a subway? Or were you able to sit back and enjoy a little unusual quiet when the buzz of electricity stopped?
Neighbor James Enright listed the top 10 things about the blackout on The View from Argyle Heights. They included great stuff like, “Had Sarah & Anthony & Henry & Isaac over to eat up all the melting ice cream–a pint apiece!” and “Watched a lot of people listening to the news on their car radio.”
So what do you remember from that day nine years ago?
