Flashback Friday: Men Doing Exercises In The Brooklyn Navy Yard, Circa 1909
The Brooklyn Navy Yard is undergoing a renaissance of manufacturing and industry, with new businesses and innovation rejuvenating the once dormant, previously bustling site of American shipbuilding and naval efforts. This image shows a snapshot of what the Yard was like over a century ago, in 1909, with men doing exercises in a common green surrounded by soldier barracks and New York Harbor in the background.
Taken by photographer Irving Underhill, the image is currently in storage with the Library of Congress.
