Today’s predicted thunderstorm could bring 2 to 4 inches of rain and damaging winds up to 60mph, continuing into early Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for all of New York City starting today, June 19, at 12pm until tomorrow, June 20 at 4am.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall could cause flooding on highways, streets, underpasses, and other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area from this afternoon into tonight ahead of a slow moving cold front, with the potential to lead to flash flooding, said the NWS. Wind gusts could lead to localized downed trees and powerlines, and isolated structural damage.

The NWS warns drivers not to roll into areas where water covers the roadway, as water depth may be too great to cross safely. If you lose power and have a disability or access needs, or use Life Sustaining Equipment (LSE) and need immediate assistance, please dial 911.

Residents of Sheepshead Bay and Brighton Beach should contact City Council Member Chaim Deutsch if they see any clogged corner catch-basins, so the Department of Environmental Protection can respond and clear them out. Call his office at 718-368-9176 or email CDeutsch@council.nyc.gov.
