Fire Consumes Building On Voorhies Avenue, 5 Hospitalized

Five people were hospitalized, including one child and three firefighters, when a blaze consumed a three-story building on Voorhies Avenue early Monday morning.

Firefighters battled for more than three hours at the corner of Dooley Street to subdue the flames. Video shows first responders hosing down the building as smoke billows from the windows of the ruined building. The call came in at 1:24am, and wasn’t under control until 4:32am, according to the FDNY.

Two of the building’s tenants, a man and one child, were taken to Coney Island Hospital with minor injuries. Three firefighters were also hospitalized, one with serious injuries, the Fire Department says.

Within a half-hour after the fire was reported, it was upgraded to a three-alarm call, according to the FDNY.

The FDNY said the fire started in one of the two businesses on the first floor. The cause has not been determined.
