Filming In Ditmas Park This Week: Robert De Niro & Anne Hathaway’s “The Intern”

Signs are posted this morning on E 18th Street between Ditmas Avenue and Dorchester Road for The Intern, a comedy directed by Nancy Meyers (Father of the Bride, It’s Complicated) and starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.

According to IMDb, The Intern centers around “The owner of a successful fashion website bonds with the elderly intern her company’s hired.” Deadline elaborates, “As [aforementioned fashion site founder’s] company begins to thrive, she’s told that her company is importing seniors to be interns as a community outreach effort, and she’s getting one. While her first question is whether they are seniors in high school or college, she learns to her horror that she’s getting a real senior, as in senior citizen. The title character, an over-70 widower who is bored with retirement from a middle management career, initially seems like a fossil to his working mother boss, but grows more indispensable. While the boss and internship develop a platonic bond, Meyers tells me that to her this is a love story about the friendship they develop.”

The film was originally slated to star Tina Fey and then Reese Witherspoon. Now that Anne Hathaway has reportedly accepted the role, The Hollywood Reporter says Anders Holm (Workaholics, The Mindy Project) will play her love interest.

The movie is also filming this week in Park Slope. Cars have already been moved off of E 18th Street today for filming, which will continue through Wednesday, June 18. If your car is moved, contact location manager James at 646-351-1531–and if we missed any blocks for The Intern (or missed signs for any other productions) please send over a photo with info on specified blocks to editor@ditmasparkcorner.com.
