Ferry To Financial District Coming To 58th Street
If you’ve been dreading the upcoming closure of the Montague R Tunnel, the city announced a low-cost alternative for those headed to and from the Financial District on Tuesday, but there’s a catch.
Starting Monday, August 5, the Seastreak Ferry will pick up passengers at 58th Street and 1st Avenue, and shuttle them to Wall Street for $2. As it currently stands, though, the service is scheduled to terminate around Labor Day. With a 14-month disruption to the R beginning at 11:30pm on Friday, this obviously leaves commuters feeling a little underwhelmed.
That said, 58th Street is a bit of a trek from our neck of the woods, so unless you’re planning on driving your car to the pier (free parking is available at 58th Street), the subway will probably remain your best bet.
Weekdays, the Brooklyn R will end at Court Street, requiring you to transfer to the A, C or F at Jay Street/Metro Tech, the B or Q at Dekalb, or the D, N, R, 2, 3, 4 or 5 at Atlantic/Barclays Center. On weekends, the R train will operate over the Manhattan Bridge between Atlantic Avenue and Canal Street.
For those of you who work in the Financial District, how do you plan on getting into the office after the tunnel shuts down?
