Feliz Cinco de Mayo From All Of Us At Fort Greene Focus

Contrary to popular opinion, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day. Rather, it’s a celebration of the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla over the French on May 5, 1862. In the US, it’s come to be a commemoration of Mexican-American heritage.

Let’s celebrate the wonderful multiculturalism of the US and especially the pluralism of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Habana Outpost (757 Fulton Street  on the corner of Fulton & South Portland) — head over to this eco-friendly, solar-powered  haunt for the best Mexican corn in the neighborhood. They recently opened for the season, so get Spring started even if Mother Nature hasn’t really opted-in yet.

Hoja Santa (250 DeKalb on the corner of Vanderbilt) — Despite questions about a sale last year, a call to the restaurant revealed that they never changed ownership. That’s a good thing, because they have a pretty good happy hour.

Pequeña (86 South Portland Avenue between Fulton and Lafayette) — In addition to be an accurate descriptor of Donald Trump’s hands, this cantina has a happy hour special that will send you to Mos Eisley: $5 margaritas, beers, and sangria from noon til seven!

El Toro Taqueria (89 Fort Greene Place between Lafayette and DeKalb) is a great spot to snag some authentic tacos. Three of them will set you back $10.50.

Alternatively, have a staycation and enjoy a margarita you can make at home.

Gran Electrica (5 Front Street, DUMBO) it’s a bit of a ways away, but they’ll be celebrating all day with a DJ and drink specials.
