FDNY Investigating Mysterious Odor On Sterling Place
UPDATE: After we checked back in, the FDNY tells us they closed this case out, but they were unable to confirm the smell with us, saying it was “just some other kind of odor” and noting they did not investigate it further.
EARLIER: The FDNY says it responded to a call about a smell of gas on Sterling Place between 5th and 6th Avenues this afternoon at just after 2pm, though a neighbor tells us the smell may not have been that easily identified.
“It smells a bit like nail polish,” said Keith Williams, who passed the scene earlier and let us know about the situation. He added that “there were a dozen firefighters with more arriving,” and that the FDNY there told him the source of the smell may have been coming from a construction site on the block.
The FDNY is still on the scene. We will update if we learn more, and if you’ve got details, let us know in the comments below, or email us at editor@bklyner.com.
