Passage by Stephen Talasnik at Court Tree Collective
Court Tree Collective
51 35th Street
Brooklyn, NY 11232
Court Tree Collective and Collision Projects proudly present: Passage a site specific sculpture by Stephen Talasnik. Having regularly exhibited both domestically and abroad, Passage is his first New York City ephemeral installation in over a decade.
Stephen Talasnik’s work is informed by organic engineering and architecture. His three dimensional works are linear extensions of drawing; his primary studio pursuit since leaving Grad School in Rome, Italy.
Although formally trained in Fine Arts at RISD his works are inspired by building; whether with pencil line or wooden dowel. The seamless narrative between structure and void is the result of organic assembly and variable repetition. He uses no mathematics or computer program in measurement, instead relying only on instinct. Everything is built by hand; a desire of Talasnik to demonstrate the ability to create without a mechanical crutch.
The structures are improvisational; no preliminary plan, no advance knowledge of the journey. He has no idea where the process will take him and in that sense, both drawings and sculpture have a sense of the complete but unfinished. By remaining unfinished, the viewer is compelled to participate in the act of completion.
Join us for the opening night on Friday February 12th at 5pm.
The exhibition will run on Saturdays 12-6pm and Sundays 12-5pm from February 13th through May 2nd 2021.
