English Choir to Perform at Our Lady of Refuge

The Selwyn College Chapel Choir of Cambridge, England will sing the 5pm mass at Our Lady of Refuge Church on Ocean Ave on Saturday, July 14. The collection taken at that mass will benefit the parish fund to reinstall its historic Kilgen pipe organ.

The choir is made up of 28 students, and they’ve performed in such prestigious places as Westminster Abbey and Saint Paul’s Cathedral. They’ll be here on an East Coast tour of the U.S., singing Orlando di Lasso’s Missa Bell as the ordinary of the mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei).

Our Lady of Refuge needs about $48,000 more in fundraising to restore its 79-year-old pipe organ, which was built at the same times as the current sanctuary. The re-installation of the organ is tentatively scheduled for next summer. When returned, the parish plans to have a concert series featuring internationally and nationally known concert organists.
