Earth Day, Rent Laws Are Expiring And More Politics

BROOKLYN — Here’s the skinny on what some of your state and city lawmakers are up to.

State Sen. Parker wants to make Good Friday a national holiday a state holiday. The proposed legislation would designate a legal holiday for public schools and non-essential government offices.

Meanwhile, State Sen. Zellnor Myrie is on a crusade to let every know that rent laws are expiring. The freshman senator campaigned on the fight for better rent laws. Tune into his day-by-day Twitter countdown.

April flowers bring May showers or maybe rain barrels. State Sen. Persaud’s office will give out 100 rain barrels from 9:00 am until 11:30 am on April 27. Members of district 17 can pick up their free rain barrels at the lawmaker’s district office at 1222 E. 96th St.

She’s also collaborating with Lower East Side Ecology Center to pick up e-waste on the same day. Bring your phones, computers, TV’s to the district office between 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on April 27.

Southern Brooklyn lawmakers announced a Mega-Town Hall encompassing the region’s city, state and congressional lawmakers. Save the date: May 2, 2021, at I.S. 259, William McKinney at 7301 F.t Hamilton Parkway. Joining State Sen. Andrew Gounardes are Assemblymembers Mathylde Frontus and Peter Abbate, Councilman Justin Brannan and U.S. Rep. Max Rose.

This is the second joint collaborative town hall, the first one was on pedestrian safety a month ago.
