Dry Cleaners Mentioned in Article on Changing Demographics Is For Sale
In December, an article in the Brooklyn Bureau looked at the changing demographics along Cortelyou Road, and one of the merchants they spoke with was Winston Levy of Winston’s Dry Cleaners, who said his customers had gone, and that the area’s new white residents weren’t doing their business at his shop. At the time, he said he was nearly ready to close the business after 25 years, and now it appears he is going to.
We saw this listing for the building at 2137 Cortelyou, which includes the dry cleaning business in the package, and which is priced at $499,000. It’s called a single-family, with a three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and claims to be a “prime location.”
One of the things that the article touched on briefly was that this business is just east of Flatbush Ave, which hasn’t seen the same business bump as the section of Cortelyou to the west. But with developments like the restoration of the Kings Theatre — just two blocks away on Flatbush — how long is it before that changes? The Brooklyn Bureau spotted nine storefront vacancies on Flatbush between Cortelyou and Beverley. Is it just a matter of time before those are filled and bustling? And if so, how long will it take?
