Don’t Be Careless With Dangerous Gas Canisters After Sandy

In the wake of the gas shortage and rationing following Hurricane Sandy, many of us have gas canisters sitting in our basements.

It’s important to be careful with your canisters now, says Gary Schultze, co-chair of Community Board 14′s Public Safety Committee. Canisters can still have gas in them unless they’ve been thoroughly emptied and cleaned. Don’t leave them near heaters in basements or near any heat source. Gas plus heat is dangerous equation anywhere and especially in a residential home.

Schultze encourages the community to share this advice and so do we. If you have any other relevant safety tips, let us know in the comments below.
