Donate Your Unwanted Volumes & Baking Prowess To The Cortelyou Library Friends Book Sale
Got some free time this weekend? Make room on your bookshelves or start planning a recipe for the Cortelyou Library Friends group’s upcoming book and bake sale. Here are some different ways to help:
- Starting tomorrow, October 5, bring your old books to the Cortelyou Library (1305 Cortelyou Road on the corner of Argyle Road). Most genres work great for the sale (kids books are a favorite!), with the exception of out-of-date manuals (Intro to DOS, Windows 98, etc).
- If you’d like to donate baked goods and/or your time (during, before, or after the sale), email cortelyoulibraryfriends@gmail.com.
- Also contact the group if you have ideas for new projects you’d like to see at the library–they’re thinking adding posters and maybe a new coat of paint to the children’s area/meeting room, but are open to suggestions.
Proceeds from the sale, which is scheduled to be held Saturday, October 19 from 2-4pm on the corner of Cortelyou and Argyle Roads (or indoors in case of inclement weather), will go towards funding awesome Friends group projects like their recently-installed book drop box. In addition, the group will be donating money to the Gerritsen Beach Library, which recently reopened for the first time since Hurricane Sandy.
Besides helping to replenish funds for the branch’s books, furniture, repairs, and computers, says Friends group co-president Rebecca Scheer, “We’re donating to Gerritsen as a special thanks to Christine Dille, who is returning there as a librarian after being such a wonderful help at our library. We’ll miss her very much, but we’re glad that she’s finally able to return to Gerritsen Beach!”
Donate, volunteer, or just plain attend the sale, and keep up with the latest from the Friends group on Facebook.
