Dog Of The Day: Wilbur
When we learned last week that the most popular breed of dog in Park Slope is the French Bulldog, we put out the call for neighbors to share pics of their pups, and you didn’t let us down! Tonight we introduce you to the first of the bunch — if you’d like us to feature your dog on the site, whether it’s a squishy Frenchie, a lovable mutt, or anything in between, send some photos to us at editor@bklyner.com!
Meet Wilbur, who moved to Park Slope from Chelsea last year! Owner Katie Rayer tells us that the 8.5-year-old Frenchie “enjoys sleeping, snuggling, eating, and romps in the park when the weather suits him,” and that when he’s taking it easy, his tongue is too, as shown above.
PSS: How long has Wilbur been in your life?
Katie Rayer: I got Wilbur when he was 13 weeks old, so I’ve had him for almost 8.5 years! We lived in Cambridge, MA and then Chelsea in Manhattan – and then Wilbur decided he was through with the concrete jungle and led the charge to move to Brooklyn about a year ago.
What’s his favorite thing about living in Park Slope?
Wilbur loves romping in Prospect Park when the weather suits him. Every other week there’s a Park Slope French Bulldog meet up, so he gets his Frenchie fix that way. There are usually 15+ dogs, all snorting and breathing loudly. It’s pretty amazing!

Aside from that adorable waggling tongue, what is one of Wilbur’s biggest quirks?
Wilbur races out the door to pee in the morning and evening before mealtimes. He’s been nicknamed “bullet” for this reason. He has the whole routine down to about 15 seconds. I’ve attached a short video to capture the ritual. [See above!]
I work at an school, and each year a visit from Wilbur is one of the raffle prizes at our annual Lower School bake sale for animals in need. Wilbur spends the day with the winner and his or her class, and he cameos in the other classrooms, too.
Explain what Wilbur means to you in five words or less.
Snuggle, snort, sniff, snore, slurp.
