Dog Of The Day: Bilbo Waggins

Spring might be in the air, but one local pup is looking forward to a few snowflakes that are forecast for this Friday. Tonight, meet the wonderfully-named Bilbo Waggins, a 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix who’s fan of the winter, and who’s been introduced to us by neighbor/his person Annie Fuoto.

If you’d like us to feature your dog on the site, whether it’s a proud purebred, a lovable whosawhatsit, or anything in between, send some photos to us at editor@bklyner.com!

PSS: Do you know how Bilbo Waggins ended up in the Manhattan Animal Care & Control shelter where you adopted him from?

Annie Fuoto: The AC&C listed him as a stray, so I don’t really know anything about his history. We adopted him after seeing his photo and video posted on a Facebook advocacy page for dogs at the AC&C. He had kennel cough and was being kept in isolation (where people who come in to adopt couldn’t see him), so the administrators of the page were trying to get his story out. We had been thinking of adopting a dog for awhile, and as soon as I saw that smile I decided to go to the shelter.

How has he adjusted so far to his new life in Park Slope? Does he have any favorite hangouts yet?

He was pretty anxious at first, but he’s really started to come out of his shell in the last month or so. His favorite hangout is Prospect Park. We always see a beagle there that I think he has a bit of a crush on. He can sometimes be a bit nervous around other dogs, but as soon as he sees her, he perks right up and the tail starts going a mile a minute.

Mommy had an Amazon fail and accidentally bought me a bone the size of me. Anyone have a pet dinosaur in need of a treat? #dog #dogsofinstagram #shihtzu #shihtzusofinstagram #oops #whatisthatthing

You’ve only known him since December, but what have you found to be one of Bilbo Waggins’ hidden quirks?

I quickly learned that he LOVES the snow. During the winter he would start every walk by sticking his entire head in the snow and wiggling his butt around in the air. I’m pretty sure he’s the only New Yorker who was sad to see the snow finally melt. Weirdo.

Can you explain what Bilbo means to you in five words or less?

D’awww look at that face!
