Ditmas Park Rental Roundup: Going Solo

Looking to shake off your roomies and make a place your own in 2014? We’ve rounded up some studios and one beds around the neighborhood to help you on your hunt. If you live in one of the apartment buildings, let prospective neighbors know how you like it.

Cheap & Cozy on Albemarle Road
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,275, plus broker’s fee
Details: Here’s what we can tell from this brief listing. 1) It’s near the Church Avenue B/Q, which will be handy when construction on local station platforms resumes in February. 2) It’s a one bed–not a studio–which is nice. 3) Maybe more of the unit should have been dedicated to the kitchen, which looks teeny-tiny and like it’s the first thing you step into when you unlock the front door. But if you’re more of a takeout person anyway, this could be an ideal situation.

Tiny & Pretty Just off Church Avenue
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,350, plus broker’s fee
Details: Also near the Church Avenue B/Q, this 380 square foot unit makes up for what it lacks in space in quaintness. Between the mouldings, sunken living room, and parquet floor, this apartment is awfully cute for someone with not a lot of furniture–but you should bring your kitchen table, because this EIK with a chair rail is more suited to local cooks than the listing above.

One Bed With Amenities Near Brooklyn College
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,500, plus broker’s fee
Details: Any Brooklyn College employees looking for a place? This unit is minutes to campus and nearby trains, with a decent galley kitchen and what looks like a balcony. There’s plenty of closet space from what we can tell, plus a 24-hour doorman, parking available, and pool access via the nearby Phillip Howard.

Classic Meets Contemporary on Dorchester
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,750, plus discounted broker’s fee
Details: This 573 square foot unit on Dorchester Road and Ocean Avenue has character with its stucco walls, arched entryways, herringbone floors, and picture moulding, plus a large modern kitchen with a dishwasher and opening to the living room to make cooking and entertaining easy. The bathroom is also sleek and new, and the listing says there’s a discounted fee.

One Bed With Bonus Space off Cortelyou
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,950, plus broker’s fee
Details: This apartment on Cortelyou near E 17th or E 18th Street looks pretty and sunny, plus there’s a bonus space for a walk in closet or other storage, an office, or a studio. Guessing the washer/dryer noted in the “additional features” is not in-unit, since there’s no other mention or photo of it–and while in-building laundry is nice, we’re not 100% clear on what makes this worth the price. Maybe it’s because we’ve just looked at all these lower priced one beds, maybe because we can still occasionally find a true two bed for the same price or less, or maybe it’s the 3/4 sized appliances and outdated finishes in the kitchen… but do you think this unit will go as quickly as the ad suggests?
