Ditmas History: April Floods Day
We were about fed up with the rain and gray skies much of last week and the past weekend, but today the sun is shining again at the intersection of Cortelyou and Stratford. Area residents this time in 1948, though, probably hoped the view outside their respective windows was just an April Fools’ Day gag.
This photo from the Brooklyn Public Library originally appeared in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle’s April 1, 1948 issue. Who knew 1029-1035 Cortelyou used to include a laundromat, Venetian blind store, and Lyons Cafe?
We look forward to April 1 of next year, when the building will likely look very different than in either of the above photos–and when, hopefully, the streets will be nice and dry.
