Deutsch Announces Series Of Workshops To Teach Fire Safety And First Aid
City Councilman Chaim Deutsch is partnering with the Fire Department and other local elected officials to host several workshops in his district to teach fire safety, CPR, and other first aid procedures. Deutsch will also be giving away smoke detectors from city’s #GetAlarmedNYC initiative, the largest smoke alarm giveaway and installation program in the country.
“It is extremely important for people to be educated in basic CPR techniques. A grandparent watching a grandchild, for example, can utilize CPR to literally save the life of a small child in a potentially dangerous situation. At a restaurant, advance knowledge of the Heimlich Maneuver can save valuable seconds in a life-saving effort,” Deutsch said in a press release. “In addition, fire safety education and having an advance plan in case of an emergency, are hugely effective fire prevention measures.”
The first event will be held on Tuesday, November 24th, at 7pm in PS 193, on Bedford Avenue and Avenue L. Councilman Jumaane Williams, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Senator Simcha Felder, Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte, and Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein are co-sponsors.
“We have been witness to countless incidents in the past in which these invaluable tips could have saved lives. It’s not a case of if, but when, someone is surely to benefit from the instruction this evening and I thank Councilman Deutsch for arranging this workshop for my constituents,” said Weinstein.
Announcements for similar events are expected to be announced in the future.
