A veteran leader in the NYPD’s Patrol Borough Brooklyn South (which covers all precincts below Flatbush Avenue) has been tapped to serve as commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, which includes Fort Greene/Clinton Hill’s 88th Precinct.

Deputy Chief Jeffrey B. Maddrey will take over the role effective Saturday, February 14. He joined the NYPD in April, 1991 in the 110th Precinct in Flushing, Queens, and worked his way up the ranks and across southern Brooklyn, in Coney Island, Flatbush, Sunset Park, East New York, Crown Heights, Brooklyn South Task Force, and Housing Borough Brooklyn.

Maddrey also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services Leadership from St. Joseph’s College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from John Jay College.

His appointment comes following the retirement of outgoing Chief Gerald Nelson tomorrow (February 13) after nearly 42 years with the Housing Police Department and NYPD.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton praised Nelson for leading Brooklyn North during a period that saw “a 40.3 percent reduction in homicides” and cheered Maddrey’s “excellent record as a precinct commander and borough executive officer.

“His leadership experience, as well as his strong ties with the community makes him an asset to the Department and the people he will serve in his new capacity,” Bratton said.
