The Day: SONYA Art Walk, Broken Angel Documentary and Cheaper Rents in Fort Greene

This weekend, take a spring walk around the neighborhood and check out the new blooms. (Photo by Francisco Daum)

Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Bring your umbrella today, as the National Weather Service is predicting heavy showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Luckily the skies should clear up by Saturday – just in time for the 15th annual free South Of the Navy Yard Artists (SONYA) Art Walk in the neighborhood. Download a map of artist studios and galleries and explore the neighborhood’s creative side.

Whatever don’t forget to snap few photos and submit them to The Nabe’s Flickr group.

Here’s some more local news for the end of the week:

  • Arthur Wood’s son Christopher is trying to raise $26,000 via a Kickstarter campaign for a documentary about Broken Angel House, reported Gothamist. According to his Kickstarter page, he also is looking for photographs and footage of the house.
  • Looking for a cheaper rent in Fort Greene? Try looking south of Lafayette Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Flatbush Avenue and Clermont Avenue, according to Curbed NY. The average rent for a one-bedroom in that area is $2,200, $300 less than the average rent for one bedroom in Fort Greene.
  • Hopefully the skies won’t up before FAB Friday Kids begins at 4 p.m. today at Fowler Square. If you head out to have some fun this week, you’ll find art workshops with SONYA and a pop-up reading room.
