Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

With more winter weather expected this week the New York City Department of Transportation and the Department of Sanitation announced alternate-side parking rules will be suspended today to remove piles of snow across the city. They will also be suspended on Wednesday for Lincoln’s birthday.

Here’s more news to start you day:

  • Want to find out what wildlife is living around your neighborhood? The City Birder blog reported that you’ll have the chance this weekend. The free urban park ranger program “Birding: Winter Birds” begins 1 p.m. this Saturday at the Fort Greene Park Visitor Center. Use the urban rangers’ expertise to spot the amazing variety of birds that live in the park, but don’t forget your binoculars.
  • The Atlantic Yard Report pored over the Final Scope for a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement regarding Phase 2 of the Atlantic Yards project. The Final Scope, which took the Empire State Development nearly 11 months to complete according to the blog, says underground parking spaces will be cut by 21 percent and 192 apartments will be shifted from Phase 1. Though Phase 1 will be smaller than proposed, the total floor area of the site would remain the same.
  • A local “tiger mom” shuffling a 6-year-old boy from tennis lessons to Mandarin class was highlighted in an AM New York op-ed post supporting Mayor Bill de Blasio’s education initiatives. The post asserts that with more music, art and language classes in public schools, these moms might be able to relax a little more with their kids. What do you think, locals?
